When you’re expecting a baby, one of the most exciting activities is capturing maternity portraits. There are so many ways to do this beautifully, both outdoors in Kansas city, and in my Overland Park studio, but I thought I would share some of my favorite timeless styles to document maternity portraits.
In-Studio Maternity Portraits
The studio is my very favorite option, as the simplicity of my all-white space allows the subject to be the focus without busy distractions. My Overland Park studio has amazing natural light, is home to my incredible client wardrobe (almost 100 dresses for mamas, and tons of options for the whole family!), AND has the perfect set-up for my hair and makeup artist to glam you before your session. It’s a stress-free experience and allows for the most outfit changes during the session, since we have everything we need right there! Every session is a family session with Melanie Soltz Photography, so partners and children are welcome to join for your session.
Outdoor Maternity Portraits
For something a little different, we also offer outdoor maternity sessions. Outdoor sessions are limited, so I always suggest clients snag them well in advance if they know they will want them! We usually shoot a couple of hours before sunset at one of my beautiful outdoor locations around the Kansas City area. Outdoor photos are great if you have a little one who likes to explore, and if you enjoy the aesthetic of foliage and greenery. The look will change depending on the season, and outdoor sessions are offered May through October. Consider what time of day your little one is happiest when determining if an outdoor session is right for you!
Intimate Maternity Portraits
These belly-baring shots are stunningly beautiful, and artistically focus on mama and the bump to create timeless portraits. I absolutely love these looks, and am always thrilled to have a mama select one of our gorgeous lace robes or bralettes for a more intimate look. Partners are always welcome to hop in for these shots as well.
