If you are like most people, planning outfits for you portrait session is a big stressor. The time, expense, hassle of going to and from stores with kids in tow… it’s all overwhelming and most don’t know where to start! That’s why I am so pleased to offer access to my Client Wardrobe complimentary with your maternity, newborn or family session.
Here are some styling tips that I always follow:
Order of outfit selection: I always choose mom’s dress first, then kids, then dad. If there are no kids, I still always start with mom 🙂 I have over 50 dresses in all sizes and a variety of styles available. My client wardrobe pieces have been carefully curated to flatter at all stages of motherhood.
That means that I have dresses to fit through various stages of pregnancy and to flatter postpartum. I also offer dresses with and without sleeves, and dresses that are nursing friendly. I always want my clients to feel beautiful, comfortable, and to be provided a variety of options.
Choosing mom’s dress first helps to guide the remainder of the selections. It also allows mama to be the star of the show. Let’s be honest – she deserves it!
Comfort: Obviously you won’t be running a marathon in the dress/outfit, but you should feel comfy! Does it cover everything you want covered? Does it hit in the right places? Can you move, walk, interact, sit, hold your children? Are you self conscious of anything while wearing the outfit? Be honest with yourself and your photographer – this is key to having a final product that you are excited to hang on your walls and print in an album!
Think about the final product on the walls of your home: This one may be a surprise, but think about how the colors and style of the outfits will look in your final photos. Wardrobe makes such a huge difference in the look and feel of your photos, so we want to ensure that when the photos are hung on the walls of your home, they match your decor. I always gravitate towards light and neutral tones, which is reflected in my client wardrobe offerings. Those colors and styles are fresh, timeless and classic – which will look beautiful on your walls for years to come. I suggest staying away from anything super trendy, which will make your photos feel dated.
These are just a few of my key tips to share! I am always excited to help my clients select wardrobe for their maternity, newborn or family session with a complimentary wardrobe consultation prior to their session. It’s a great way to meet and learn about your family, while also setting the stage to create beautiful memories.
